Spike Lee

With the upcoming release of ‘Chi-Raq’, New In Cinema’s next Directors Season will celebrate the work of its legendary filmmaker Spike Lee. Lee was recently awarded with an honorary Oscar for his contribution to cinema having made classic films like ‘Do The Right Thing’, ‘Mo Better Blues’ and ’25th Hour’. He used the occasion to blast the Academy for their lack of diversity demonstrating once again that he is one of the most provocative and outspoken artists in all of filmmaking. It’s for precisely this reason that Lee is such a distinctive director, and we hope to examine his feisty, politically charged movies as part of this series – from his groundbreaking debut ‘She Gotta Have It’ to the aforementioned timely new drama released with Amazon Studios.
